African American History Month

On February 12th, in celebration of African American history month, 3rd floor Sherrill House residents had the special opportunity to hear Mrs. Esther Cooper Jackson speak on the significance of the month of February in American history. As pioneering social activist and civil rights leader as well as an editor of a well-known New York cultural magazine, Mrs. Jackson worked with and was a mentor for numerous socially conscious artists, writers and political figures. Mrs. Jackson's depth of knowledge of African American history was palpable as noted by the question and answer period that transpired. Mrs. Jackson was appreciated for her talk and the residents were likewise appreciated for their interest and thoughtful reflections.
