Community Outreach

Community outreach and education play a vital role in supporting the mission of Sherrill House.

A volunteer-led Board of Visitors hosts an annual Speakers Series bringing prominent area professionals to Sherrill House to address critical issues of contemporary aging. These educational forums engage community members in discussion and reflection on issues relevant to their daily lives.



Past forums have included:

• Ellen Goodman, Founder of The Conversation Project, The Most Important Conversation America Isn’t Having
• Emily Saltz, Founder of Life Care Advocates, Preparing for the Future: What You Need to Know
• Dr. David C. Treadway, Aging Well: Facing the Challenges and Opportunities of Aging
• A 3-part series on Alzheimer’s disease in partnership with the Center for Alzheimer’s Research and Treatment at Brigham and Women’s Hospital
  

Congregational Outreach

Sherrill House values its long-standing relationship with many Boston area faith-based organizations. Trinity Church in the City of Boston www.trinitychurchboston.org and the Episcopal Diocese of Massachusetts www.diomass.org played a historic and pivotal role in the 1960’s by joining with St. Luke’s Home for Convalescents to create the state-of-art nursing and rehabilitation facility that is Sherrill House today.

Since then partnerships with congregations representing a variety of denominations and faith traditions have expanded the spiritual offerings available to residents, patients and their families. Visiting clergy, musical offerings from nearby congregations and lay pastoral visitors combine to support and enhance the spiritual journeys of Sherrill House patients and residents.
